Every time an employee with a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is involved in an accident that meets particular requirements, post-accident drug and alcohol testing is required.

These circumstances include:

No involved vehicle(s) may depart the site.

Anyone involved in the accident needed medical attention as a result of the accident.

The accident resulted in the driver being issued a driving infraction ticket.

There was a fatality in the collision.

Drug testing must occur within 32 hours after the incident, while alcohol testing must be carried out within 8 hours of when the accident occured.
