What Are Creatine Levels on A Drug Test?

On many occasions, individuals across request that the drug test needs to include the creatine levels. What exactly is a creatine level?

In urine drug testing, adulteration through dilution of the urine is very common. What that means is the individual will mix the urine with a lot of water to weaken the sample. In order to detect weak samples, the concentration of creatinine in the urine is determined during testing drugs of misuse. If the concentration shows below 20 mg creatine/dl urine, the specimen is typically rejected for testing.

The level of creatinine in your urine is determined by a creatinine urine test. Your doctor can use the test to assess how well your kidneys are working. For diagnosing or excluding kidney disease and other diseases affecting the kidneys, this is helpful. A random urine sample may be used by your doctor to screen for creatinine, however, they typically will request a pee 24-hour volume test.

Although creatinine can be determined from a single urine sample, it is more accurate to gather urine over the course of a full day to obtain that number. A spot check is not as useful because the creatinine in your urine can vary greatly depending on your diet, level of exercise, and level of hydration.

Creatinine production varies naturally with age and bodily mass. Your span will be greater the more muscular you are. It's also imperative to remember that not all labs implement the same parameters. Your urine sample must be properly collected in order to get the desired results. According to the Mayo Clinic, normal urine creatinine values for males typically vary from 955 to 2,936 milligrams (mg) per 24 hours and for females from 601 to 1,689 mg per 24 hours.

Reduced muscle mass is frequently associated with low creatine levels, but this doesn't always indicate a severe medical issue. As most people lose muscle mass as they mature, a decrease in muscle mass is typical in older people. Malnutrition or consuming a low-meat or low-protein diet can also lead to low muscle mass.
